“What are you afraid of,
O men that I have created and have not abandoned?
O men you are your own ruin, but also my creature,
O men, what fear do you have of dying?
Here, I die,
here, I suffer;
here, what you feared, fear no longer,
because I will show you for what you are to hope”.
This is precisely what he did,
he showed us the resurrection toward eternity:
he pointed the Evangelists toward this in their writings,
and the Apostles preached it throughout the entire world.
Through faith in this resurrection, the holy martyrs were not afraid to face death,
although they were afraid to die;
it would have been, however, a worse death if they had denied Christ.
And is denying Christ not the same as denying life?
What folly it is to love life and to deny life!
Here, then, the resurrection of Christ broadens the horizons of our faith.
(St. Augustine, bishop – Discorso 229/H)
May the wonderful Word that still resounds today: “I am risen and I am with you”, which nourishes our days and the constant experience of His Living Presence, grant us consolation and hope, freeing us from every form of fear and anguish.
Best wishes for a happy and holy Easter!
