The Fifth General Chapter, celebrated from March 22 – April 25, 1993, in the Divine Master House in Ariccia (RM), dealt with the theme “In Christ – in the Church –in History, living and active members”. It began with the sign of holiness and of hope: on March 13, in Alba (CN), the process on the life and virtues of Mother M. Scholastica Rivata was opened. Some of the Chapter members, who had already arrived in Rome, were able to participate in this event.
The Chapter assembly, in the formulation of the Plan of Action, determined the general objective for the next six years: Rekindle in us, as persons and community, the charismatic identity with attention to the signs of the times and the needs of inculturation in order to be a prophetic presence in the life of the Church and current history.
Among the means established to reach this goal were: the initiatives for formation under the coordination of the Center for the Study of the Charism and the Mission, research and the preparation of the history of the Congregation, the systematic study of the Constitutions, the realization of an annual and systematic course with a duration of three months on the charismatic identity, the planning of an international seminar on the unity of the three dimensions of the apostolate and their diffusion, the sharing of energies in animation, the apostolate, formation, etc. among the Circumscriptions, the formation of the Cooperators “Friends of the Divine Master”, the promotion of the collaboration with the laity, the organization of houses of prayer according to the place and culture (cf. Acts and decisions of the 5th General Chapter 1993, p. 56-60).
The Chapter Assembly elected M. M. Paola Mancini as Superior General. Also elected were: Sr. M. Cecilia Cantamessa as Vicar General, and the other Councilors: Sr. M. Franca Riba (re-elected), Sr. M. Maristela Bravin (Brazil), Sr. M. Francis Dy (Philippines), Sr. M. Angela Nishida (Japan), Sr. M. Luciana Dal Masetto (Italy). Sr. M. Loretta Maran was elected as General Secretary and Sr. M. Rosalia Rossetti was re-elected as Treasurer.
